Orton-Gillingham
The Orton-Gillingham approach is so named due to the contributions of Samuel Orton, a neuropsychiatrist and pathologist, and Anna Gillingham, a teacher and psychologist. The approach is one that is direct, structured, and targeted. It uses multisensory techniques to address the needs of the individual learner. By focusing on the structural components of language, the approach helps struggling readers recognize patterns.
Orton-Gillingham is always focused on the needs of the individual learner. Tutors design lessons that meet the student’s level, and targets their strengths and weaknesses. Instruction is paced to work with the student’s growing skill set and, while progress may be slow, it is consistent.
Students with dyslexia, or other language impairments and struggles need extra help with sorting, recognizing, and organizing the different components of language. These elements that are acquired easily by some, require direct instruction for struggling learners. The world-renown Orton-Gillingham approach is a scientifically proven intervention and may be ideal for you or your child. Please contact me for further details.
